Maisara Baroud was born in Gaza in 1976. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from An-Najah University (1998) and a Master's in Visual Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo (2011). He has teach art at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza. (The facilities of the university were largely destroyed during Israleli bombardemants in early 2024).
In his work he used stark contrats, sharp angular forms and bold lines creating intense visual storytelling that expresses human suffering, sisplacement and survival. Since October 7, 2023, Baroud has been creating a daily visual diary, illustrating the brutal reality of life under bombing, displacement, and siege. Each drawing he posts on social media carries the caption "I’m Still Alive", acting both as testimony and personal declaration of survival.
His studio and his home were destroyed by Israel during the very first bombardemants.
Among his exhibitions "I’m Still Alive" (Ramallah, Apr–Jul 2024): A powerful mural-based exhibition where artists reproduced Baroud’s drawings on walls, curated by Zawyeh Gallery. "Rubble" (Gaza, 2021, French Institute), and "Salt Boats" (Bethlehem, 2019), among others in Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, and India. "Gaza Diary" (2025): An online exhibition by the International Art Colony showing Baroud’s war sketches in a virtual gallery format. |
